Thats more like it. If it looks right it will fly right. The Hornet has never looked right to me.

Re: Star Citizen / Squadron 42
Indeed, the only problem is that the Gladius is quite a bit cheaper than the Hornet, nevermind the Super Hornet - so if I did 'melt' my Super Hornet to get a Gladius I'd have a load of spare space-money lying around, in which case I might be forced to break my one ship only rule and buy a Nuclear Bomber or something, which would be terrible indeed.

Incase anyone wants any Space Signatures.

Here's some video of Hinkel and I from last night:
Next time I'll take the canopy falling off as a hint that it's probably time to eject.

Sten Guns for everyone!
I'm assuming that this is just a concept art thing, and we aren't actually getting Sten Guns in space, alas.

Re: Star Citizen / Squadron 42
New Patch and Ships for sale!
They've changed the weapon targeting (again) to move from the lead indicator style (where it shows where you should point to get on target) to a predicted impact point style (where it shows you where your bullets/lasers will go) sort of like a modern Fighter HUD - as well as that they've fiddled with the flight controls so that the sensitivity of your control movements changes when you get closer to the enemy, so you don't overshoot so much - can't say I've noticed it much as yet though as I use the head aiming gimbal thing.
The other major change is they've doubled the size of the maps so you don't crash into the side all the time!
Not sure if they've fixed your space BMW yet, Speedy - they've edited some weapons stats etc though.
The Gladius is in the Hangar now though, so it's probably going to go on sale again tommorow (hint hint ) Not sure how much it'll go for, but it was £50 ($80) last time.

Guess we should do some pew pew on Sunday to check it all out.
They've also put the next Concept Ship on sale today for £53 ($85), called the Drake Herald, which is apparently an information runner:
The Drake Herald is a small, armored ship designed to safely get information from Point A to Point B. Featuring a powerful central engine (for high speed transit and generating the power needed for effective data encryption/containment), advanced encryption software and an armored computer core, theHerald is unique among personal spacecraft in that it is designed to be easily ‘cleaned’ when in danger of capture.
Yeah... not so much.
Other than that they're having another live event thing tommorow (saturday) in upside down prison colony land, starting at 10am GMT, where they're going to show off the First Person Shooter stuff, which is meant to be like ArmA/Rainbow Six/Delta Force, so hopefully that'll be good - plus they're putting two ships up for sale, one presumably will be the Gladius, and the other looks likely to be the Aegis Dynamics Redeemer, which is a fan created Gunship / Assault Ship that won the ship design contest they ran a while back.
Oh and it will probably go on sale with Life Time Insurance for a few days, as will the Herald - incase you're a crap Pilot and are cheap.

Re: Star Citizen / Squadron 42
Gladius is being sold now at £56 ($90) for the Ship, or for £65 ($105) for a Game Package
Gladius P5G Flight Manual
You know you want one!
The Redeemer LTI is being sold for £155 ($250) for the Ship, or for £165 ($265) for a Game Package
Aegis Dynamics Redeemer Brochure
Seems that if I 'melt' my Super Hornet package then I'll lose all the extra stuff that comes with it like the physical game CD and alpha access and the like, which would cost $65 to get back most of that (and some of the other stuff isn't available anymore) - so instead I'm going to buy a Gladius on its own and keep my Super Hornet for a while, in the hopes that I can do a cross-chassis upgrade later to something different like a Retaliator or Exploration Ship or whatever.
Or just keep the Super Hornet, as they might be best suited for different roles - maybe turn it into a SWACS.
Farewell, one ship only rule.
Here's the FPS footage:
Looking pretty good, some stuff is a bit iffy, like how the Ironsights seem glued in place rather than having any sway, and it seems a bit Ramboish at the moment, though it's very early in development so hopefully that's being worked on.

It's a slippery slope, Hinkel.
First your ship is asking you not to stand in a certain place, then it'll start shouting 'pull up, pull up' at you every time you dip the nose - next thing you know you're flying an Airbus and you have to ask its permission to be able to use the controls.
Not sure about the 325a, Speedy - but the 300i they gave me as a loaner while my Gladius gets repaired (someone stood on it and it broke) seems to be able to hold its own well enough in Vanduul Swarm.

no!...no!....It's not true....I'll never join you.
I think its a bit like rolls-royce giving the jet engine to the Russians. Some fool from Origin gave the engine to the empire.

Re: Star Citizen / Squadron 42
I'm sure that must be it, Speedy...
And the Origin 890 Jump isn't really a Star Destroyer in disguise.
Not that the Gladius is an overly original design either...
Now that we've pew pewed for a bit, has anyone had any thoughts about the UEE Naval Reserve organisation I mentioned a while back? Presuming we want to do military style stuff when the game goes live proper?
UEE Naval Reserve Organisation Page
UEE Naval Reserve Website
We can join them as an Affiliate Squadron and keep ou squadron independence etc, whilst having the logistics and the like of a bigger group, with joint ops and training (not that we need training of course!) - which sounds good.
From what I can tell they seem to be Europe based (the boss bloke is from Leicester anyway), which is convenient for time zone stuff.
Plus we're 'Squadron 19 (Reserve)' anyway, and I like their recruitment poster.

I'd be interested in all that. Though it depends on when they plan to have their ops etc.
I haven't checked out their pages yet but, I assume if they're military/navy based then hornets and Galdius'sss are going to be required?

Re: Star Citizen / Squadron 42
Seems to be general military style stuff like killing aliens, killing pirates, patrolling places, escorting stuff - they have different wings, such as the Tactical Wing, which does the aforementioned stuff, the Recon Wing for stuff like exploration, jump point mapping, special ops and the like, and the Support Wing for stuff like medical ships and fuel tankers - presumably we'd be in the Tactical Wing (presuming affiliate Squadrons join a Wing) or maybe Recon I guess.
Would be nice to have access to the Support Wing, unless any of us plan on being deep space fuel tanker Pilots.
I don't think they have rules about what ship you have to use, at least not for affiliates, anyway according to the lore stuff the UEE Special Forces use Origin 350Rs for Black Ops stuff - though if it makes you feel any better when you decide to buy a Gladius, then yes you must have a Gladius Speedy!
Also it's Gladii, it's a Roman thing.

Re: Star Citizen / Squadron 42
There's a vote up for a new starter ship at the moment:
Letter from the Chairman - $61 Million
Personally I went for this:
Anvil Hurricane: Some ships avoid dangerous encounters with speed, some with stealth and others with maneuverability. The Anvil Hurricane’s philosophy is that it should be able to blast anything that gets in its way out of the sky. The Hurricane won’t win any races and its electronic signature won’t let you sneak behind enemy lines… but it features a wide array of fully customizable small bore weapons hardpoints plus the ability to customize weapons types in several ways. Hurricanes are often used by militia squadrons and private organizations seeking to add a “heavy” to their lineup.
Though I'm not sure the idea of a slow ship with lots of little guns called a Hurricane will ever catch on...
Hopefully with the Anvil Hurricane IIc we can remove the small bore weapons and install 4 20mm Gatlings like on the Hornet - then in the Anvil Hurricane IId we can have 2 anti capital ship cannons or something.
I guess Speedy could get one and go and join the Space Soviets, or at least he could if the Hurricane wasn't losing the vote completely.

I've added my vote to the Hurricane.
It was a toss up between that and the Drake Dragonfly, just because it's described as a snub fighter, giving ample opportunity to quote star wars..."but what good are snub fighters going to be against that?"

The MISC Reliant is winning by 51% though, so I guess we're stuck with this:

Don't forget to throw them off the front of the Bengal Carrier if I get killed, after using them as motivation to shoot down lots of aliens and save the day.
