In Game Map Tools
Not sure if this is general knowledge, but I only learned about it not too long ago.
The in game map has a few navigational tools that you can use by right clicking on the Map and selecting Tools:
One being the Ruler, which allows you to measure distances in miles, slected from the top left:
Which can be very useful on the Storm of War Server, where radar reports are along the lines of '10+ Bandits 30 miles south west of Brighton', as you'll be able to get a better idea of where that actually is:
There's also a Protractor tool, but it's a 180 degree one split down N-S, meaning 270 degrees will actually show up as 90 degrees, personally I prefer to use a real 360 degree Protractor if I really need to know the precise heading.
In addition there's a tool that allows you to place icons on the map with text beneath, as well as the in-game time:
The time on icons is also quite useful if you want to try to get an estimated speed for the enemy, as you can measure the distance between two contact reports (however the report locations can be somewhat vague, being either 'North' or 'North West' for example, rather than a precise heading.
If you don't want to spend time drawing lines everywhere and just want to make a quick guess as to the location of the enemy - each grid square is approximately 6 miles across and 6 miles up, and 9 miles diagonally

Good stuff MJ.
While we're on the subject of general knowledge, where do you get the radar contacts info from? I presume it's different to the TAB ground control commands?

The Storm of War RDF is TAB-4-1, the information itself is shown in the Server chat (as opposed to the normal AI radio subtitle box) - once you've used it you have to press TAB again to close it (rather than 0. Back) or else the script might crash, the entire Chain Home system will go down, we'll lose the war, all that we have known and cared for will sink into the abyss of a new dark age, and you'll be shot by firing squad (no pressure.)
I think the information is slightly delayed (2 mins or so I think), where as the information used by TOPHAT Control is a more up to date web version.
Incidentally, using the old TAB-7-1 Radar like on the ATAG server is considered bad form, so better stick to Tab-4-1 and your eyes.
