Using the NUMPAD method

Post  Acroyer on Fri Jan 08, 2010 11:01 pm

In the air, its hard to mark targets on the map without losing control of your plane, or losing your situational awareness. Pilots need a quick, simple way to relay target information to their allies, and this is one way to do it. We used this constantly in Warbirds, in my squad there, and it works especially well when there are no landmarks to reference (towns, crossroads, etc).

That's the current map, with AWS activated. Assuming there is a target offshore somewhere we want to attack (like a Transport), how do you report his location quickly and easily?

Divide the map grid into nine equal parts, numbered exactly like the NUMPAD on your keyboard.

Then you call out the target with the grid square first. Let's say I see a ship in the NE corner of BE 36, I'd report it as "Ship at BE36, 9"

If that's not accurate enough, I can divide the square further, by splitting that square again, in the same way.

Now I can say "Ship in BE36, 9, 3" and you know he is in the lower right corner of the upper right square in BE36.

This is a very accurate, very fast method to use when reporting bombers and para planes too....

I did the bracket thing, and it didn't work....hmmm

Must be that 'wrong side of the road thing' UK vs USA again...

EDIT: Figured it out, the last bit of the URL is wrong, had to delete a phrase in there. It had "?action&viw=" where it didn't need to be. Works now, huzzah!
