Only two pilots were available for tonights sorties, and after an early painful meeting with 5+ 109's (ending in 2 KIA's with only 1 kill) over Gent, 19 Squadron took operations south to run Combat Air Patrol over Valenciennes.

Trade was quiet over the town, and heading out north east F/Sgt Speedy saw a low bogey that turned out to be a Ju-87. Sgt Dojo was lagging behind, and while Speedy bounced the Ju-87, Sgt Dojo spotted 4 bogeys coming in from the east of Valenciennes. They were identified as 2 more Stukas and 2 109 escorts.

Whilst F/Sgt Speedy despatched the Stuka, setting it on fire, Sgt Dojo bravely engaged the other 4 enemy aircraft, managing to hit the engine and cockpit of the first 109. As F/Sgt Speedy turned on to the 109 he was able to confirm the pilot was dead. The second 109 dropped in behind Speedy, who was attacking the second Stuka, however F/Sgt Speedy easily evaded the 109's guns, causing the enemy Messerschmitt to overshoot and fly straight into Sgt Dojo's gunsight. Another burst of 20mm cannon and the second 109 was dead.

At this time the second Ju-87 fell prey to F/Sgt Speedy77's guns. Both pilots were running low on ammo, and seeing a friendly trio of allied aircraft in the area, they headed back to Lille for an RTB and well deserved rest.

Total kills - 4 (1 109 E4, 1 109 F4 and 2 Ju-87's)
Total Losses - 0.

A good result, however 19 Squadron need more pilots! Check out the Recruitment thread if you are interested in being part of the newest Spitfire Squadron in WWII!
