Re: Welcome, Comet!
nice to have you along for the ride comet, sorry I didn't get a chance to chat more last night, although we started off relatively quiet it soon picked up.
Well done on that Heinkel. Have a read through the forums, especially the SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) section. We were a little loose last night, I prefer things to be a little more rigid with regards to assigned sections and flying with your wingman, but I'm a little rusty as I've not been on much, and once we bring the bombers it all goes out of the window!
Suffice to say our squad nights are Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Sundays are provisionally training nights - They aren't compulsary by any means, but if you can let us know if you are unlikely to make it then I can work out a rough idea of numbers and potential mission types.
We primarily fly Spits, and rank 3 is the minimum requirement to get most people on the same version of Spit (apart from the Spit IX, which is rank 5 I believe!!) To this end, bombing bridges is the quickest way to rank up, 30 points for a successful bomb on a bridge and an RTB. Bridges must be less than 100% destroyed before you bomb them, and 1 or many bombs on 1 or many bridges will still only give you 30 points.
Its 300 points from rank 1 to rank 2, then an extra 500 from 2 to 3, so be prepared for 25 or so bombing runs!
In my personal opinion, using the Blenheim Mk1 F (found in fighter squadrons) allows you to bomb from the pilot seat, and the 50lb bombs do little damage to you if you are low and caught in your own blast. There must be an 'Attack Order' on the bridge (you can see that as a red flashing square on your map) in order for points to be awarded. You can ask HC on the Ops channel to place an AO on a bridge close to an airfield in order to facilitate this, they are usually able to help out. If not, I can set the AO if I am in game.
Apart from that, let me welcome you to 19 Squadron RAF (always 19, never 19th!) - it is good form to post a little about yourself (not too much, this is the interweb after all!!) and your game/sim experience, just so we can get a measure of how much training you might require.
