No Bombs Needed - Killing a Freighter With a Spitfire

During my testing this morning on the training server, I had a chance to see if my old method of sinking a Freighter with cannon fire still works, and it does.

Be wary of the freighters AA guns (20mms mounted on the bow and stern, in pairs), and approach the ship from behind. Any angle of attack will usually work, as long as you fire into the engine and rudder area aft.




I did this several times on the training server, and got a kill credit each time. The freighter will NOT sink immediately, but you will cripple the engines and/or the steering. Cannon fire over the rest of the ship does not do much, except possibly kill any soft targets carried as cargo.

Note: The 20mm guns cannot elevate very far, unlike the ones on a Fairmile or DD. This leaves the freighter very vulnerable to a steep diving attack, just be sure to throttle back so you don't compress and kamikazi into the target.
