Falcon 4 Fans!

Post  Skip19 on Mon Nov 28, 2011 8:49 pm

For those of you who are in to such things... Very Happy

The original team behined the BMS version of Falcon 4 have released the latest definitive version, BMS 4.32.

It contains a lot of the avionics and realism patches from FreeFalcon and OpenFalcon, but is a lot more stable and upgraded to use Dx9, UI rewrite and campaign overhaul, also gone is the long and complex 'dance' to install - you just need either a full Falcon 4 install or just the original files.

Personal favourites are the 2d cockpits have gone, and the A10 is fully flyable with a clickable 3d cockpit.

Sounds good!

Is there a list of flyable Aircraft or is it just F- this, A- that, etc?

I'm guessing the flight model is designed for an F-16 and everything else uses either that or just a simplified one?

Well you can fly any aircraft (as with most Falcon versions) but the ones you can fly that have fully working 3d cockpits is -

F16 (all blocks)
F14
F18
F18 Super Hornet
A10
Mirage 2000.

I checked the Eurofighter and Tornados, they use the Falcon pit as default. Mad
Mig 29 is an incomplete pit. thats as much as I tested over the weekend.

oh, and no GR4 booooooo.

The flight models are different for each aircraft, only the avionics packages are limited to the F16 (as before). having the A10 is nice, if you don't want to fork out for DCS.

It's basically the original BMS version (which Open, Free and Red Viper are built on) but finished and polished off and updated for Dx9 (which none of the other versions are!).

Open Falcon has closed now, (they should call it Closed Falcon Razz) and any new mod work is now being done on BMS - it's like a unified version now, not sure about FF as they were always a seperate group.

It's good though, I've flown most Falcon versions and this one feels the most complete. Very Happy

Re: Falcon 4 Fans!

I guess I'll just have to get used to flying an F-16 for a while then (I'm indifferent about most US Aircraft, so might as well use an F-16 as it is supposed to be an F-16 game, although there's always the F-14 Top Gunage. Razz )

Hopefully the payware cockpits I use (Cockpits.nl) will get upgraded to be usable with it as they are with Free Falcon, at the moment I've got the Typhoon and F-14 pits, and the Tornado in Free Falcon was pretty snazzy (was meant to be the most detailed model ever in Falcon 4, allegedly.)

To be honest I never really got past the level of CCIP bombing - ie point circle at building/tank and press bomb button = success! My Air-Air combat was essentially keep bashing buttons until it makes a sound that sounds like a missile lock, then bash some more buttons until something explodes, as for LGB and the like, I just got confused with that - I think it was mainly because all these different mods used different systems and keys, so if you read the Falcon 4 tutorial about how to drop a Laser Guided Bomb it probably wouldn't work with the mod you were using.

I sometimes wonder how accurate the avionics are in Falcon 4 compared to now, as if Falcon 4 was released in 1998, wouldn't the Falcon 4 F-16 avionics essentially be like they were running the Fighter Jet version of Windows 98? (Presuming the Falcon 4 avionics were up to date when it was made) - where as now they would be using the Fighter Jet version of Windows 7...

As if you think about it, when you play Falcon 4 you aren't playing a game about modern fighter combat, you're playing a game about fighter combat 13 years ago.

Or do they just use the same stuff now as they did then?

As for DCS: A-10 vs Falcon 4: A-10, I reckon DCS looks amazing and is probably a fantastic A-10 simulator, but it annoys me that people keep making simulators but never make a good dynamic campaign like Falcon 4 has! Same about IL2 Cliffs of Dover, it's all well and good having these fancy flying machines, but what's the point?

well, the good news there is, you can select your mission type, fire up your A10 from cold on the ramp, load your DTC with the designated targets, take off and rendezvous with the rest of the CAS package (F22's flying CAP escort, and F15's flying SEAD with AWACS support, maybe even an F/A 18 package flying a Counter BARCAP from a CV in the Sea of Japan), then fly your 4 ship Flight using FLiR in to the FEBA (after the SEAD team have deployed their HARMS), SHACK your targets and RTB NOE using the TFR, do an IFR INS approach and landing then taxi back to your ramp and power down before your next mission. Shocked

The sad thing is that I know every one of those acronyms you used, and I haven't played F-18 Hornet in probably 10 years.

you can fly (and land) the F18 from carriers in Falcon 4. I don;t think you have bad guy naval groups though.

I used to like flying a GR4 NOE on CAS to an FOB near the DMZ to drop CBUs in CCIP on DPRK MBTs and APCs - but now we've banned them, so no more of that for me... Crying or Very sad

surely once it all kicks off the DMZ no longer is a DMZ?

I would say that the DMZ would still be the DMZ if only for a reference of the status quo pre kicking off, even though the DMZ may not itself be a DMZ in regards to what a DMZ represents in the standard DMZ argument.

Now that's more like it...altogether...#you're in the army now! whoa# ..no just me then.

That games looks good. I haven't played a modern flight sim since graphsim's FA18 Korea, so it would be good to get back into it. Also I may be able make use of all these damn buttons and twirly things on my joystick.

Downloaded it yesterday - not bad for a Flight Sim as old as Boni. Razz

Here's a dogfight from someone who doesn't know how to use the radar properly, select weapons or work the missiles (other than go to dogfight mode - when it makes a noise press fire!)

Who needs missiles anyway! Razz

The terrain still looks naff, mind.

The thing that caught my eye more than anything in that video is the reflection on the inside of the canopy as you are looking up and around...very impressive graphic touch.
