Well, technically 207 Missions, but who's counting? Razz

Taa.

Speedy, you managed to get the full kill credit on that 109, despite only hitting him with a single bullet (out of 590 that you fired) - so who needs cannons? Laughing

Ha! that's brilliant....it's all about quality not quantity!

That said I've been on the receiving end of my fair share of one bullet pilot deaths myself recently, so fairs fair.

Well I got shot down once by a persistent Jerry who chased me down to the deck but I walked away unscathed from that. The second time, the shot came out of nowhere (surprisingly, I didn't hear any sound effect, I just suffered the damage). Well I didn't go through that one unscathed, as the screen went slightly red. I also trashed a Spit I and a Spit II during take-off... MJ said he'd have me shot on account of the latter incident. He then commuted the sentence to a kneecapping as the Spit II's wreck was within the airfield's boundaries. So in one day I survived 2 defeats, 2 crashes and a summary court-marshal. Lucky me...

Check this out: http://www.angelfire.com/ct/ww2europe/stats.html

8th Air Force:
fired 76.9 million rounds of .50 caliber
fired .7 million rounds of .30 caliber
downed 6090 enemy aircraft
had an average of 1 enemy plane shot down for each 12,700 rounds fired (1/12,700)

15th Air Force:
fired 30 million rounds of .50 caliber
downed 2110 enemy aircraft
had an average of 1/14,200

The Germans' average was 1/12,000

So, Speedy's 590 out of the 8th's 12,700 is 21.52%
Quite efficient, I'd say

Wow that's a lot of lead being thrown around the sky, 107.6 million to be precise, and just from those air forces alone.

All those missed rounds have to land somewhere, so I wonder if they fall with enough velocity to kill unsuspecting people below? I'll leave that to our resident aeronautical engineer to figure Wink

Well you see, Speedy - bullets fired into the air usually fall back with terminal velocities much lower than their muzzle velocity when they leave the barrel of a firearm. Nevertheless, people can be injured, sometimes fatally, when bullets discharged into the air fall back down to the ground. Bullets fired at angles less than vertical are more dangerous, as the bullet maintains its angular ballistic trajectory, is far less likely to engage in tumbling motion, and so travels at speeds much higher than a bullet in free fall.

That said, I copied everything after the word Speedy directly from Wikipedia, so it may or may not be true. Laughing

Though if you think that's bad, just think of the implications of firing off thousands of 20mm cannon shells from multiple mini-guns on a Hornet in Star Citizen, with no atmosphere to slow them down. Laughing

Well, there are no unsuspecting people floating around in space, so problem solved xD

Tell that to the Kr'ta'k'a'taaaaaaa Star Empire, whose ship was destroyed by Speedy's stray bullets 12,000 years after he fired them, sparking an interplanetary war. Laughing
