50 Missions
Apparently survivng 50 missions without being killed horribly is a milestone of note on the Storm of War Server, so here goes:
Guess I'll go home now, you can fight over who gets the Cine Camera.

How have you managed not to get plinked by the AI gunners? Even if they don't kill me outright, they generally hit my engine and force me to crash land in some field?

Re: 50 Missions
I've been hit plenty of times by the AI gunners and been wounded a few times - but somehow they've never managed to fatally damage my engine (I've had it where the engine is hit and shakes like no one's business, and has orange flames come out of the exhausts on one side - but it didn't seem to hit the performance much).
Anyway, even if the engine is knocked out - so long as you crash land in England it's all right, as the stats are based on the Pilot rather than the Aeroplane - you're still on your first 'life' after 7 sorties.
I'll see about uploading a video of our Tuesday sortie to show you my technique if that helps (which was also the sortie where I became the highest scoring Pilot in Fighter Command, not that we care about such petty things of course. )

I'll never turn down a gong, Speedy.
The thing that worries me now is that no one has as yet managed to survive for more than 66 sorties.
'What's always worried me about being one of the few is the way we keep on getting... fewer.'

Re: 50 Missions
I decided to go up and record a sortie of a 'text book' intercept - which as it happens turned out to be my best sortie thus far - shooting down 6 Dornier 17s (although one of them crashed about 50 minutes later, but it still counts!) which brought my total up to 100 - who needs cannons, eh?
Some intercept tips:
Some intercept tips:
- Make sure you start off with an energy advantage so that you can make quick passes.
- If the gunners start hitting you then change your approach slightly to try to throw them off again.
- Pick an engine.
- Shoot at the engine.
- Shoot at the engine.
- Shoot at the engine.
- Shoot at the engine.
- If the engine sets on fire or the bomber drops out of formation then pick another bomber.
- If not, then shoot at the engine.
- After your attack break away from the formation (i.e. if you're attacking the right side bomber section then break right - so you don't crash into anyone else!)
- Get your energy advantage again then go back in, remember you'll slowly lose energy as you keep climbing and diving, so make sure you don't slow down too much.
- When you're done shooting then bugger off.
- Be decisive and don't rush it.

Re: 50 Missions
That was close...
There I was taxiing along in my Spitfire when suddenly the wheels sank into the ground, it catapulted 50 feet into the air, did a backflip and exploded (quite a common issue in the Spitfire Mk. 1 according to historical sources).
Thankfully I managed to leave the Spitfire before it exploded, only to see a burning crater in the ground when I respawned.
Would've been a pretty crap way to end a 60 odd mission career.

You should buy a lottery ticket as your luck seems in at the moment.
