Squadron Gun Camera Footage
I've noticed that nobody else really makes any videos apart from me, which I suppose is due to either not having the time, not knowing how, or not having a powerful enough computer.
Well, in Cliffs of Dover there's an in-game track recording program, which will make a copy of what happens in game in order to be viewed later - this means that recordings can be taken at a lot less of a performance hit than direct in-game video recording, and a lot less file size (between 10,000 - 30,000 kb) and with the possibility of changing camera angles and views etc, for example to make gun camera footage.
Tracks can be recorded by pressing Escape once in game*, then clicking on the 'Start Recording' option, and choosing a file name, shown below:
You can then return back to the game and fly around as usual, whilst the track feature records everything that happens, before pressing Escape again at the end of your sortie, selecting 'Stop Recording' to end the track recording (very important!)
This then saves the track recordings as a .trk file, which will be saved in your 'Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover - MOD\records' folder.
*I recommend only starting a recording once you are airborne, as I have encountered a bug where the recording will freeze after a min or so if you begin recording whilst still on the ground - just make sure you're properly trimmed before pressing Escape to set it up!
What I suggest is that if we can all try to record our MP sorties, then you can send me your track files and I can create the gun-camera videos out of them, that way we can look at peoples convergence and gunnery etc to try to improve (seeing as that's what Cine cams were for ) and also to make fancy Squadron guncam montages to show everyone how great we are!

I will try to remember to start the record.
can you just upload the video on youtube or do you have to convert them first?

The track file is loaded in-game, and runs the playback using the in game engine, so its like you're flying the sortie again but everyone is on autopilot - so you have to record that with fraps or bandicam, etc - the same as you would if you were just recording normal footage.
But if you send the track to someone else they can play it in game and see through your eyes.

From the Cliffs of Dover main menu you go to 'Extras -> Tracks -> Select'
When you've selected one and loaded it you'll have to select the '[] Edit Views' box, then once the track starts keep pressing F1 until you get into your cockpit, then you can press escape and untick the Edit Views box if you want it to show what your head movements were.

Re: Squadron Gun Camera Footage
I'll remember that for next time.
Shame I wasn't recording, because there was an odd moment when I had just started running for home as my plane was hit and shaking, when a 110 suddenly appeared very close off my starboard wing..it was one of those double take moments! I then had a pop at him, then continued home, whilst MJ finished him off. I don't know if it was that 110 that hit me in the first place, so a video would have helped.

When you load the track you need to tick the box that says 'views', when you play it back you can then switch between cockpit, external and flyby view.

MJDixon wrote:If you want to record any views other than the Cockpit view (ie external or guncam) you have to ask for access to the track external view utility here
External views are disabled for online tracks by default, in order to stop people from recording quickly then logging off and looking at the track to see where the enemy is, apparently - but the tool gets around that.
