I've had to put my space BMW into storage until I upgrade my PC, so I won't attempt to download that just yet!

Re: Star Citizen / Squadron 42
I decided to have a go at making a new future style Squadron patch/insignia, here are a few samples, let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions:
The first three are based on some official art of the insignia of Squadron 36, which is pretty much just one of the standard US style patches:
The next seven are a mix between Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm insignia, and the embelem of the United Empire of Earth:
The sinister looking red and gold ones are supposed to look Roman, as seemingly the United Empire of Earth is based on the Roman Empire.

Re: Star Citizen / Squadron 42
I've added a second batch, using the wings from the 19 Squadron insignia, but removing the Dolphin (which looks nothing what so ever like a Dolphin anyway ) and replacing it with a Gladius - I'm presuming the reason for the Dolphin is that they flew Sopwith Dolphins, so it sort of carries on the tradition, presuming you all go and buy Gladii.
Also changed Reserves to Aux, for Auxiliary, as it sounds more Roman.

Re: Star Citizen / Squadron 42
I think I prefer P, S, U and W, with W being my prefered, which is good as you like that one too. Â
I've made higher quality versions of W with variations in the colour of gold, the design of the wings and the font, so let me know which of the three variations you prefer.
I quite like the wing design of the left hand insignia, as it looks like the gladius and the wings are the same object, rather than just one on top of the other, though my only concern is it might not be as apparent that it's XIX for 19, rather than XX for 20 with a symbol in the middle. Â
I could just remove the Xs and replace the AUX with XIX, but I quite like the idea that the hilt of the gladius is the I in XIX - or just replace the AUX with 19, and keep the XIX in the middle.
Also which of the lot do you like, Speedy?

Re: Star Citizen / Squadron 42
You have been very busy MJ, damn fine work!
I was looking at these on a tablet at the weekend but it wouldn't display the whole image, so I couldn't see half on them!
So looking this morning my preferences are P O R and 1. I think generally a palette of three colours works best. The ones with green added don't work so well. I did prefer the blue and white images as it gives a more peace keeper / guardians of the galaxy image.
That said, as you have narrowed it down to V2a and V2b, I prefer V2a.
The sword with the wing design coming from the hilt is a very strong image.
I agree that the number could be read as 20. Maybe some variations showing XIX at the top or maybe inserting '19' in the banner in front of fighters squadron? You could even try changing the shape of the sword handle so it looks more like a roman capital I, so it reads as XIX but still looks like a handle?

Re: Star Citizen / Squadron 42
Good points, Speedy - here are a few other variations of V2a with different colour schemes, V2d is the same palette as the UEE Navy Insignia.
Also I changed the hilt of the Gladius to look like an I in V2c, which does look good - though I was a  it concerned that it might make it less apparent that it's specifically a Gladius as opposed to a generic sword, as the shape of the hilt is quite a distinctive part of the Gladius design, but I think it gets away with it.
I think the winged gladius could just be used as a standalone insignia here and there as well.
Also if you click on the images it should open them up in their own page so you can view them in full, at least that's how it works on my phone.

Re: Star Citizen / Squadron 42
Its between, V2c and V2e for me now. They seem more clearer than the blue/grey.
Regarding the AUX/19/RESERVE title : At first, I thought the number 19 at the top was too simple, but on second thought it does remove any confusion between 19 and 20 and will allow you to keep the sword handle as your original idea.

Re: Star Citizen / Squadron 42
Right then, for the sake of democracy and all that, here are 6 designs - pick one (one! ):
To be honest though I imagine we could use different colour schemes in different places anyway, so essentially it's a question of if you prefer the traditional Gladius hilt design or the I replacement design.
But pick one anyway!
In other news, it's been announced that Saitek, or Mad Catz or whatever they're called these days are making a 'range of officially licensed simulation products for Star Citizen', so it will be interesting to see what they come up with - should have a first look at it at the Gamescom event on Friday evening.

Re: Star Citizen / Squadron 42
Don't suppose anyone has any thoughts about us becoming an affiliate Squadron of the UEE Naval Reserves? Or even remembers that at all?
In other news, I was contacted by the boss of Intergalactic Airlines looking to hire a convoy escort, so hopefully when the game comes along proper we might have some business opportunities!

I do remember that. I think at the time is was a good idea, provided we can still do our own thing as an when needed.
Convoy escort sounds ok, dependant on the flight length time of course.

Re: Star Citizen / Squadron 42
Just make sure you buy a short range fighter, then you can conveniently run out of fuel, Speedy.
The UEE seemed quite keen on the idea of the individual squadrons maintaining their independence, but being able to support eachother with escorting and refueling squadrons and such, and presumably joint training and the like.
I guess we'll wait for Hinkel to get back then look into it.

Good news! The first release of the Planetside / Social Module has gone live, now we can go to the Space Pub!
Plus they said it would be out by the end of August, and for once they were right.

Re: Star Citizen / Squadron 42
Some interesting information about Electronic Warfare, nice to know it's not just basic radar stuff:
Design Notes: Electronic Warfare
Also this:
We're all going to need bigger PCs.
Lastly, Philstyle (one of the admins from Storm of War) has set up a Cliffs of Dover Pilot's Organisation for Star Citizen, in case you want to join as an Affiliate (which I have done):
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/orgs/STORMOFWAR
Just select 'Join us now!' and select active or whatever (you can have 1 main org, i.e. Squadron 19, and up to 9 affiliates, so selecting active should just join you as an affiliate.)
