Well, started fresh with the new acct.

Nice chap named padawan set me up a mission to bomb the bridges at Schilde and Grobbendonk, but things promptly went weird.

An enemy infantry man hid in the North hangar and sniped my bombadier, then shot up my engines as I was taking off. As I rolled to a smoking stop in the middle of the field, I saw big read/yellow incoming shells, but they missed.

I reported the ei and a vehicle shooting up the airfield at Antwerp. Someone corrected me and said it was 'just an elmg' not a tank. A few of us took off in Hurricanes (me in the 2b and them in the 2cs) and proceeded to pound the snot out of the hangar area, but we didn't get the camper. He shot up another of my Blens, but again he wasted his ammo on my bombardier - so no kill for him and I could RTB. By now I was getting pretty irritated, and when it spawned me in the South hangar for a change, I simply throttled up and drove across the field to the northern hangar. As I went, I opened the bay doors on the Blen. I saw the little gray bastard running out to shoot me, then turning and running for the big boxes inside when he realized I wasn't taking off, I was coming after him. As I cleared the hangar doors, I dropped the entire load of bombs and blew myself (and the little bastard) to heaven.

After some comedy on the chat channel, I took off in a Spit1a to go after a 110 reported approaching Lier on the deck. About 2km from Lier I ran into one serious furball instead. Three 109s, a couple of 190s, a whole pile of blue and green planes, and a smoking H-111 that had an active tailgunner. I didn't have any altitude, so I stayed lower and faster and took some shots on the 111, but he didn't crash. I went back to the field and tangled with a pair of 190s who were trying to vulch people on landing. One flew into a tree trying to get me, the other ran off after a failed BnZ attempt, with several blue tags arriving to join the fun. RTB'd and had hits on the 111, but no kill.

As I was about to spawn in, someone said 'many ea over ant field help!' in Side channel. I noticed that someone had a ground forces mission open for the RAF, so I spawned a Bofors and trundled out to go duck hunting. As I (finally) got out to the airfield, most of the fighting moved towards Lier again...except something that fires big red/yellow shells was STILL sniping at the airfield.

Exactly where I reported before.

So I reported it again ("Hey a tank with a really big, slow firing gun is shooting at planes on the AF, from the SOUTHWEST") and this time someone listened to me. I ended up as mission leader, so I marked him on the map, and then pounded him with Bofors shells to mark him for air strikes. Turns out it was a TIGER (driven by someone named 'Timbo') and an OPEL. I got hits on both, plus a Rifleman, but no kills (can't believe I didn't kill a rifleman with a 40mm AA shell, but...). Someone bombed the Opel, and someone else sapped the Tiger later, as he sat there dueling at long range with my Bofors. Once the EWS was clear, I took off in a Blen and bombed the Schilde Bridge (10 points) and then on the next run to Grobbendonk, I got slaughtered by a pair of 190s over the river. I did make them work for it, and one of them didn't go home because he got pounced on by the RAF (hooray for a close airfield).

So after all of that action and excitement, I got a whopping 10 points, and am now 10% towards my first promotion. LOL But I had lots of fun, and met a very capable pilot named padawan (who does not appear to have a squadron tag, as far as I can see). This guy was very helpful, and I saw him chastise someone for acting obnoxious in Side chat, so he has a good attitude. One of you fellows with more current experience might want to see if he's recruitable or suitable anyway.

Off to dinner!

Addendum - The enemy is taking Temse and Schilde as I type this. Have been flying CAS all morning, mostly bombing bridge repair crews as the jerries try to fix the bridges to get their tanks across. Allies are evacuating Schilde now, pulling brigades etc. Antwerp suffering regular attacks by campers and/or vultures overhead. Enemy took Brussels this morning, and immediately put AO on Temse.

Highlights - Dropped a 500 pounder in the middle of the river, just west of Temse bridge, and wiped out a squad of infantry trying to swim across. 3 LMGs 2 riflemen did not make it across...

Low point - ran into an obnoxious New Yorker named Amerk who spent an hour sitting in the hangar chatting about NY City, whilst I made regular bomb runs on the FB at Schilde. When I asked him if he planned to participate in the war, he got lippy with me (because I'm a green tag, lol) and offered to go Axis and come shoot me down. I told him 'go for it, mate' and pointed at the 19 RAF tag. I told him 'New acct, not a new player', which led to an amusing conversation on whether or not I was a green tag posing as a veteran player...which ended when I asked him if he knew any noob players at rank zero that can take off straight out of the hangar with a loaded Blen4, check the status of a bridge, call in a spot report on the enemy FB, mark targets, and put eggs on target before landing (wheels down) on the origin field. At that point a chap named reaper337 pointed out that Amerk was being trolled and he should shut up and get into the air (which he did).

41% to my promotion now, but have to take a break and eat breakfast.

Good job Peki.

And that particular fellow is quite well known for being a bit of an idiot, so good call on that one. Razz
