19RFC Training Server

Post  MJDixon on Wed Oct 24, 2012 10:39 pm

Right, I've had a fiddle with the Rise of Flight mission editor, and put together an extremely basic mission, which is essentially just 6 R.E.8s sat at an Aerodrome - and I'm going to try setting it up as a Server, which will be called 19RFC Training Server password dolphin and I was hoping someone (or more than one if I'm lucky Razz ) could load up RoF and see if they can connect, and if the server runs ok, and all that guff.

I'll set a test time of 8:00pm BST tonight, but I'm available whenever if someone posts that they can do it before/after that.

At the moment it's a Co-op mission, which I think if you die you're dead - which is probably a good incentive seeing as it's a Training server, but I'll have a look at changing it after we see if the server works or not and people can connect - also not sure if it's join in progress or not.

If you're lucky I might manage to put some map icons up by the time it comes to testing it!

Was thinking we could use it for flight training and navigation and such (I find the R.E.8 is good for that as it's easy to fly (so long as you get enough speed to take off!) doesn't have mixture/radiator to worry about and has 2 seats, so you can do some sort of Pilot - Instructor thing Laughing ) Cross-country navigation fun!

Then when I get used to the mission editor I suppose we could use it for anything.

And the good thing is, if you can navigate and fly formation and the like in RoF, then you can do it in WW2OL too! Laughing

might be able to give it a whirl in the old 'arry Tate.

I have to say I've put more of those RE8's into the fields around Reims than I have flown them on actual missions, but I did give that Bosche artillery section a good pasting once I got up in the air. Very Happy

Jolly good. Razz

Think the DH4 would also be good for instructor type stuff as the observer seat has its own copies of the cockpit dials - don't think it's possible to have dual-control though, which is a shame.

Can't seem to get it connected, get error 10019 when trying to connect to the server. Sad

I tried disabling the firewalls and such but still no joy, Hinkel tried setting up a server too and I got the same error trying to connect to his.

I think maybe we need to open some ports or do some networky thing, but I'm not really into networks. Razz

Shouldn't need to open ports if I have the firewalls disabled though should I?

This sounds great! But I can't try it tonight, wed is 'play tennis with the wife' as part of our deal for my online gaming. I also need to stop over at the bicycle shop and replace my patch kit and CO2 inflator, as I loaned mine to a coworker who rode his bicycle in to work today.

Got the Server to work! (Huzzah!)

Still need to fiddle with the actual mission to make it work properly, mind.

I've converted the mission into a Deathmatch now, as opposed to Cooperative, which should hopefully make spawning stuff a bit easier. Razz

(I added the Brandenburg W12 Seaplane as that's the only Hun two-seater I own, incase anyone wants to practice attacking two-seaters. Laughing )

How exactly does this work, MJ? I've only flown missions solo (offline) in the training and campaign modes. Does this mean I can log into your server and fight AI planes alongside of you for practice? Or is it set up so that I log in and have to fight you (or other squad mates)?

At the moment it's just set up so that you can spawn in as either British or German with an unlimited supply of Aircraft (like intermission in WW2OL), though I can set it up so that there are AI Fighters and the like too, as to make the Server missions you use a full mission editor, where you can place objects and vehicles and aeroplanes and the like, though I'll have to learn how to set waypoints up and such first.

So if I were to go log in right now on your server, who/what would I be facing, if anything? Or does it need more than one live player to have a match?

Do I need to have Mods Off or Mods On, to see the server (I can't see it right now, and suspect I am doing something wrong).
