Setting up the views in RoF
OK, I got my TrackIR to work in WW2OL, and it seems to work (sort of) in RoF.
However, I can't figure out how to zoom in on the gunsight and then zoom back out. If I simply lean forward, my view zooms in somewhat but it also goes down into the cockpit (where it looks like my forehead is pressed to the upper rim of the cockpit). I believe this is because my sensor is mounted above the monitor, and leaning forward puts my head lower (in relation to its original position). I have no idea how to fix this.
Any suggestions on how to set up the views better?

Re: Setting up the views in RoF
For zoom I use the mouse scroll wheel - not sure I'd like the idea of zoom being tied to head movment as it'd get a bit annoying if it zoomed in every time I tried to line my head up with something!
As for your head lowering when you move forward, I guess you'd have to fiddle with the trackIR prongs or hat or what not (whatever TrackIR picks up to read your head movements) and try to make sure they're in the optimal location/angle.

Hmm I could use the mouse wheel on my throttle, I suppose. Have to figure out how to set the zoom to that though. And then perhaps removing the zoom (Z axis?) from my TrackIR profile, so it cannot zoom accidentally with head movement.
Played some WoT this morning, smashing enemy tanks with mine, and my two platoon mates are from Poland and Ukraine respectively. Makes for a bit of immersion when I am in my Russian heavy tank, lol.
After they logged off for the night, I scampered over to WW2OL...nothing at all going on, the whole world is asleep yet. Fruitless patrol and then land back at base.
Off to the Western Front, decided to try a quick mission, rather than continue with the training campaign...3v3 Spads vs Fokkers...ugly fight, but I survived and shot down one enemy plane. Unfortunately, I managed to clip a tree on the landing approach (oil all over my goggles) and went splat BOOM. Still the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen in a flight game, so much so that dying doesn't make me unhappy.
I have a plate of food and a cup of coffee at hand, then its off to finish the training campaign missions. I really want to become competent in these games, so I must fly!

I find the offline and training missions very frustrating. It always ends up with me chasing an axis plane round in circles and as they turn better than we do I can rarely get my guns on them.

Re: Setting up the views in RoF
I found the best way to get to grips with RoF was to get rid of all the training aids and automtic mixture controls and icons and this that and everything else from the begining, then take it all very slowly (as if it were a real Aircraft) i.e load the mission, check all the dials (and make sure you know what they mean!) move all the controls to make sure they work properly, read the aircraft guides so you know what the limits are, what the revs should be, what the strengths and weaknesses are - etc, then make a nice text book takeoff, fly a few circuits, etc - maybe chuck it about a bit if you feel you can handle it - then when you can manage to fly the aircraft in an empty sky without something breaking - slowly work your way up to shooting at unarmed two-seaters, then eindeckers, then slowly improve the enemy as you get to know the Aircraft.
The benefit of always playing on full realism is you never teach yourself bad habits, like forgetting to set the radiator position before takeoff, or diving too fast and over-reving the engine because that button was turned off last time you played.
Then again I also have a flying helmet and goggles - so maybe I'm just sad like that.

I also have the zoom view mapped to my X45 throttle and I zoom in and out when needed rather than trying to use with track IR.
The biggest issue I have with ROF is aiming! can't hit a barn door!

Well hitting isn't a problem for me, I just get close enough that they fill the entire view and then I hose them down. My problem is trying to look around without staring at my toes inside the cockpit, every five to ten seconds. I really wish the view snapped back to center like when you use the hat switch views in WW2OL.
