wind and rain. will it ever stop?

With the luftwaffe being forced to the ground due to bad weather the day started really quit.

Our ground forces were preparing a counter attack to safe the French who have been pushed back a lot.

2nd Lt Speedy 77 was sent to recon the Belgian town of Turnhout. Other elements of 19 RAF and Badger squadron were forming on the airfield to provide close air support fot the town.
Weather seemed cleared in Germany as soon multi 109 's showed up over Turnhout. Speedy chased away to escape but it was to late and he was spotted and followed. With the rest of the squadron just lifting in Brussels no help was expected any time soon. Speedy kept his cool and decided to turn and engage the faster 109's. He quickly shot them all down and then went for RTB at Antwerp airfield.
In the mean time 19 RAF and badger arrived to Turnhout. 19 RAF remained above town for support while Badgers went east for intercepting.
Without luftwaffe support Turnhout quickly fell and the weak counter attack repelled.

Other operations included the towns of Luik, Hannut and Sint Truiden

19 Raf claimed 10 axis planes shot down with the loss of 3 aircraft and 2 pilots

It was a good nights work all round. It was interesting to see how syzporn was trying to instil into his squad the need to lift and rtb together...sound familiar.

A side note, to my first engagement.

I spotted a flight 3 109s at 12K above Turnout. Their attention was fixed on the town below, so it enabled me to drop in on the tail end charlie and explode him without being seen. I then climbed back up to alt, and waited for his buddies to try and avenge him. Sure enough they showed up and so began a cat and mouse game of me bouncing one, whilst his wingman gained alt on me. After a few plinks on each of the them my alt advantage was gone, and being on my todd, I decided to dive through the cloud for home just south east of Turnhout. They duly followed me, and that is where the long deck chase began. With a long way to go, I knew I couldn't out run them for long, but pressed on rolling, and hugging the deck, also flying under a bridge at Grobb for good measure! As they closed, their shots began to find their mark so I was forced to turn and engage. They accepted the turn fight, which increased my chances in a spit 2. Eventually I got critical hit on the F-2 and he went in. That left an E-1, who's courage seemed to leave him with the loss of his buddy, and he turned for home, but he was already to low and slow. Already out of cannon, I unloaded my mgs into him and he went in. A flight of 3 109s, accounted for by 1 speedy77, huzzah!

Quite a long side note, but I was quietly well chuffed with that one!

Good reading!

Something we will need to get going also in our Squadron.

And yes we have been spending the last 2 weeks getting our Squadron into shape, getting the guys to learn our SoP so they have it on the backbone - the need to fly as a group, to RTB and lift together.

It is really working out well - I had fears that when I was not online to whip this into them, then it would fall apart, but nonono it is actually working, and the guys are now doing it on their own.

Was also very very very very pleased with Greg1488's performance as a flight leader - I was AFK and gave him the OiC of the Squadron, and he was not idle!

Chatter on TS all the time (in the good way) - noone was in doubt as of what to do, he kept asking for their status, ammo situation etc etc.. and made the right call as to when to RTB the wing for maximum enjoyment all around the table.

We have a Squadron Night on saturday - we kick it off at 20.00 UK time, and would LOVE to fly with 19 Squadron!

We're usually on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday - but I'll see if I can get on this Saturday for some Hun bashing. Smile

Be interesting to see how that thing on Allied Secure turns out too.

Yes, yes it will!

It is my hope to be able to encourage the creation of a CAS Squadron.

187 Squadron does have a CAS group - not officially though, but we are very much in love with the Hurricane Mk.IIC

A 100% CAS dedicated Squadron cooperating with 19 and 187 Squadron would fucking rock!
