Wednesday Rise of Flight - 7:30pm BST
S! Chaps.
I'm going to have a go at MP Rise of Flight on the Syndicate Realism Server from 7:30pm BST on wednesday, I'll also be logged in to our WW2OL TeamSpeak Channel whilst online too, so feel free to join me if you want to wing up.
I read somewhere that on wednesdays they do early war missions on the Syndicate Realism Server, not entirely sure if that means all day, or what their definition of 'early war' is, might mean Airco D.H.2s and Nieuport 11s, or might mean Sopwith Pups, Sopwith Triplanes, Nieuport 17s and SPAD VIIs, when Hinkel and I were on the wednesday before last it was the Somme, with D.H.2s and Nieuport 11s vs Eindeckers and Albatros D.IIs, but that might have just been one of the rotating missions they have.
Or if you don't fancy early war we could try 7:30pm on Monday instead!
Incidentally we probably won't manage a tuesday night WW2OL squad night this coming week on account of the football (England vs Ukraine, 7:45pm Kickoff) so, er - sorry Hinkel.

Y'know, it's funny that, cause on friday I see Hi...
Naa, I'm alright with friday.
I usually use the in-game chat feature if it's important, Skip.
Or TS chat for boring long-winded stuff.

did we find out what plane set is on this early war? Is it the 1916 Somme map?
DH2 and Neuport 11s?

Re: Wednesday Rise of Flight - 7:30pm BST
When Hinkel and I were online a few wednesdays ago it was Airco DH2s vs Fokker Eindeckers, with limited numbers of Nieuport 11s and Albatros D.IIs, plus R.E.8 and DFW C.V two-seaters.
But that was just the Somme mission, not sure what other ones they run, at the moment it's Spring 1918, but they might just start the early-war stuff in the evening.
Other than the Somme I'd imagine it'll be stuff like the SPAD VII, Sopwith Pup, Sopwith Triplane and Nieuport 17 era.
Though if it is the Somme I'd be tempted to just take an R.E.8 two-seater, the RoF website states the R.E.8 maximum speed (presumably bombless) is 106 mph on the deck, where as the Airco DH2 is 80 mph, Fokker Eindecker is 88 mph, Nieuport 11 is 103 mph and Albatros D.II is 101 mph.
I wouldn't want to be the one to try take on the rear gunner of a two-seater in a Fokker Eindecker anyway.
Though I would be tempted to try out the Nieuport 11 (with RFC markings!) if there were any available.
Reading the forum, there might also be a mission that's just Airco D.H.2s vs Fokker Eindeckers.
As far as I can tell, the Syndicate Server setup goes:
Monday: Normal
Tuesday: Normal
Wednesday: Early war
Thursday : Normal
Friday: Normal
Saturday: Normal
Sunday: Vintage realism missions
And the missions on those days rotate depending on when the previous ones are won.

Re: Wednesday Rise of Flight - 7:30pm BST
The Somme gets a bit tedious after a while it must be said - be better if it was just DH2s vs Eindeckers, flying a DH2 against an Albatros is suicide at the best of times!
We were going to have a good fight with Hinkel and I in DH2s vs two Eindeckers, but one of the Eindeckers crashed into Hinkel.
This is the best I managed in the DH2 as far as air combat is concerned:
I claim a probable on one Fokker Eindecker forced out of combat.

Re: Wednesday Rise of Flight - 7:30pm BST
Had another go with the Sopwith Scout after Hinkel logged off - must say I'm getting a taste for the crate!
Here's a quick and easy two-seater kill.
It must be a good crate if it has the honour to have its own variant of the great cumbrian song 'D'ye ken John Peel'!

When you soar into the air on a Sopwith Scout,
And you're scrapping with a Hun and your gun cuts out,
Well, you stuff down your nose till your plugs fall out,
'Cos you haven't got a hope in the morning.
Chorus__
For a batman woke me from my bed;
I'd had a thick night and a very sore head,
And I said to myself, to myself I said,
"Oh, we haven't got a hope in the morning !"
So I went to the sheds and examined my gun,
Then, my engine I tried to run;
And the revs that it gave were a thousand and one,
'Cos it hadn't got a hope in the morning.
Chorus__
We were escorting Twenty-two,
Hadn't a notion what to do,
So we shot down a Hun and an F.E. too,
'Cos they hadn't got a hope in the morning.
Chorus__
We went to Cambrai, all in vain,
The F.E.'s said, "we must explain;
Our cameras broke--we must do it again;
Oh, we haven't got a hope in the morning!"
Chorus__

Re: Wednesday Rise of Flight - 7:30pm BST
Well my WW1 escapade didn't start very well..if at all.
Spawned in a DH2 and track ir wasn't working. Restarted, couldn't start my engine, much to Hinkels amusement . Found the key command for mixture and the engine finally started and my DH.2 took off by itself and entered a slow spiral climb where I found I had no stick controls at all (which explains the mixture problem as that is mapped to a rotary control on my throttle!). Restarted, tried a quick mission, same result. Restarted, tried BE offline, same result.
Turns out my stick drivers had decided to go awol. So by the time I had reinstalled them and checked all was ok, time was getting on so I retired back to my damp tent on the AF to write a poem about a Sopwith scout. Poor effort really but I sure someone will read it one day.

Re: Wednesday Rise of Flight - 7:30pm BST
tnx to speedy i have full knowledge of the blip switch as i had to play with it contantly to avoid taking off :p. when i got tired of it and shut down the engine right at that moment speedy s engine decided to start
first flight i did with mj ended not so good. it was very hard to keep visual on mj his re8 ( i was in nieuport 11 ) but we managed to get far into enemy airspace without much problem and were even joined by a random nieu11. then a albatros dII wanted to engage mj but i made him concentrate on me. a really nice dogfight i had with me with me firing some holes in his airplane. in the end he got control over the fight and he shot me down
the dh2 is just no match in this time period and best u can use it for is balloon destroying duty.
when we switched to new wings server we tried out the triplane. not bad at all but i had problems with left turns. the plane allways seemed to be going up instead of side ways. took me a while to get used to it and how to control that turn.
some nice fights i had there.
overall a fun evening in rise of flight

Re: Wednesday Rise of Flight - 7:30pm BST
By the way, word to the wise for anyone that wants to fly a bomber at some point, the different bombers have different bombsight ranges/settings.
i.e. the Handley-Page 0/400 has a bombsight that goes up to 15,000ft and a wind adjustment that can adjust for wind from any direction.
However the R.E.8 (which is what I was flying last night) and D.H.4 have a bombsight that goes up to about 11,000ft, but the wind adjustment only works if the wind is directly behind you or directly ahead of you.
For example if the wind is blowing 3 m/s from the north west, as it was last night - you have to either fly your bomb run from the north west or south east - which wasn't much good for me as I was attacking from the west.
Didn't have to worry about that, mind - on account of the Albatros that wounded me and forced me back home (forced landing on our side of the line - just about!)
And as for the Bristol Fighter that has one that only works between 70 and 80mph (and I mean either exactly 70 or exactly 80), and altitude settings of either exactly 10,000 feet or exactly 15,000 feet - so don't bother.
Also, wind direction info is found in the mission briefings, incase anyone is wondering!
