The truth about pilots...from a pilot Empty The truth about pilots...from a pilot

Just about ten minutes ago, I had the pleasure of chatting with a customer who was touring our company (I work in a place that makes all sorts of signs and banners and things). This particular customer was about 70 years old I guess, and a fellow veteran. He noticed I had the squadron website (this one) up on one of my work stations, and asked me if I was a warbird fan. It turns out he was an aircraft mechanic in the Korean War, working on Navy planes. We talked about WW2OL and flying in the sim, and the attitudes of the pilots (etc). Before he left, he gave me one little gem of a comment...he said (in regards to pilots, simulated or otherwise) that there was only one significant difference between the pilot and his aircraft:

"Only the engine stops whining when you shut the plane down."

I laughed so hard I almost cried - here is a real world veteran telling me that the forum jockeys (who cry so much about their planes, our tactics, and the rest) are actually acting in character for a real fighter pilot.

cheers
